NDIS Employment Assistance?

NDIS Employment Assistance is designed to empower people with disability by helping them build the skills and confidence needed to prepare for, secure, and sustain meaningful employment. Supported through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), participants can access two key employment pathways: School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) and Finding and Keeping a Job (FaKJ).

At Durdans, these supports are delivered through our Work Ready programs, which are designed to guide individuals step-by-step along their employment journey — whether stepping out of school, starting a first job, or returning to work after time away, we’re here to support every stage of your employment journey.

Our Work Ready Programs

School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES)

SLES empowers young people with disabilities to transition smoothly from school to work or further study, equipping them with the skills and confidence to build a bright future. With a focus on real-world learning and personal development, this program supports you to:

• Discover your career interests
• Strengthen social and communication skills
• Learn to manage money and travel independently
• Create daily routines for success
• Explore training and education options

We aim to build your independence and prepare you for whatever comes next — whether that’s a job, traineeship, or further learning.

Finding and Keeping a Job (FaKJ)

FaKJ provides tailored employment support for NDIS participants aged 15 to 65 who have work-related goals included in their NDIS plan. This support is centred around helping you prepare for work at your own pace and includes:

• Job readiness training and workplace expectations
• Support to discover job opportunities that match your unique strengths, abilities, and passions.
• On-the-job support and workplace mentoring
• Coaching to help you thrive in new roles
• Support to transition between jobs or industries

Our Personalised Approach

Our team works closely with you to develop a tailored employment plan, which is reviewed and approved by you and your support network. This plan may include:

• Career planning and goal setting
• Resume writing and cover letter creation
• Interview coaching and job searching techniques
• Workplace behaviour and confidence-building
• Social skills and communication training
• Budgeting, numeracy, and travel planning
• Access to internships or job shadowing opportunities

We offer flexible delivery: in person, in the community, at your school or workplace — or online, if that’s what works best for you.

Work Connections and Long-Term Support

Thanks to our strong employer networks, we’re able to connect participants with real-life work experience that aligns with their interests and goals. And once you secure employment, our Disability Employment Service (DES) team provides continued support to ensure you stay confident and successful in your role.

Supporting Young People

We collaborate with youth organisations to develop programs that spark interest in employment. Our team designs workshops and training that reflect the unique aspirations of young people, helping them take their first confident steps into the world of work.

Return-to-Work Support After Injury

If you’re returning to work after an injury, we partner with Workers Compensation providers and insurers to support your reintegration into the workforce. Our team focuses on rebuilding your skills, restoring your confidence, and creating a step-by-step plan tailored to your recovery.

Funding Your Services

If you have an NDIS plan, you may be eligible to use your funding to access our employment services. If you don’t yet have a plan or need help applying, our friendly team is here to assist — ensuring you get the support you need, when you need it.
